How it works
What is a passkey?
A passkey replaces the password. It lives on your phone, computer or a security key, and confirms it is you with your fingerprint, face or device PIN.
Using your phone on another computer
On the account page, choose “Sign in with my passkey”. In the browser prompt, if available, choose another device or a phone, then scan the QR code with the phone holding your passkey. Available options depend on your browser and device.
Using the same account on several devices
On the new device, sign in to the same account with an existing passkey, for example using your phone. Open “Access and security” → “Passkeys” and choose “Add this device”. Confirm on the device. If your passkeys already sync, you may not need another. Do not choose “Create a new account” for this task.
Security key
A security key connects by USB or NFC and can hold a passkey. To add it to your account, sign in, open “Access and security” → “Passkeys”, choose “Add this device” and select the security key in the browser prompt. To sign in later, select that key when the browser asks.
Opening the email confirmation link
Open the link in the message using the same browser and device where you started signing. If another app or browser opens and cannot find your signature, copy the link into the original browser. Confirmation finishes there; you do not need to return to the sharing page. In the local demo, emails stay in the local inbox.
Why we show “signatures received”
We count everything that arrives. The site does not know who signed, so it cannot merge repeated ones. The author reviews them before delivery and can publish the count after review.
Having trouble using a passkey in this browser?
Try opening the site in an updated browser. When signing in, check whether the browser prompt offers a phone passkey using a QR code. If you have your recovery code, choose “Sign in with recovery code” on the account page; you will need a compatible browser to add the new passkey.
Recovery code
The recovery code opens the same account if you lose all your passkeys. When creating an account, copy the displayed code onto paper or somewhere else safe. The site cannot show the old code again. If you can still sign in but no longer have it, you can create a replacement:
- Open your account and sign in with your passkey if needed. In the menu, choose “Access and security” and find “Recovery code”.
- Choose “Make a new recovery code” and confirm with your passkey. The previous code stops working.
- Copy the complete new code somewhere safe. To use it, choose “Sign in with recovery code” on the account page, enter it and follow the steps to add a passkey.
I lost a device
If you still have another passkey, sign in with it, open “Access and security” → “Passkeys” and remove the lost device’s key. If you lost every key, choose “Sign in with recovery code” on the account page, enter your saved code and add a passkey on your current device. Without another key or the code, the account cannot be recovered.
Deleting the account
Choose “Delete account” in your account. Read the consequences for signers and petition creators before confirming.
